Message: Dull orange star like object seen to south east just after midnight. Sky completely overcast and object travelled easterly direction under the cloud flickering exactly like a star. First suspected it to be a firework or a flare but object continued course and was visible for over 15 minutes as it headed NE and disappeared into low haze.

Details of your organization was passed to myself to report sky phenomena.

I`ve noticed a high frequency of orange light type object reports. What credibility do you give to these observations?

As an amateur astronomer for 30 plus years, keen aviator, environmental professional and time served in the military I`ve had a good background to offset most reports where they belong based on natural and artificial explanations (although still assumptions) but I am struggling to interpret some of the orange phenomena.

Some of the observations are of birds reflecting sodium lighting off white plumage for example. I`ve frequently seen this effect with gulls.

I`d be grateful for your opinion on the sighting I sent you particularly as I cannot understand what it was. It has been suggested it might be a Chinese lantern type balloon or someone is releasing “Floating lights”.

The few reports of an orange object looking oval or as described like a “Squashed donut” accelerating away, leaving a trail of orange and disappearing completely are the ones I`m particularly interested to find out about. One was widely observed exhibit this flight in August 1978. Some initial evidence I found suggested it (or something like it) was tracked by radar and successfully evaded aircraft interception on more than one attempt by more than one air force.

I`m not able to find out anything about it now.

Have you any idea what the accelerating orange objects might be?. This and the report I sent are totally unrelated in my opinion.
