Knaphill, Woking, Surrey, 02/03/09 15:00 + 18:30

Message: I'd like to let you know about something I saw on Sunday 1st March and would like to find out if anyone else has reported anything similar/relating to it.

I live in Knaphill, a village just to the west of Woking, Surrey. I was looking towards the sky in a westerly/south westerly direction in mid-afternoon and saw two black "dots" in the sky, which I thought at first were birds. How big they were, their altitude and distance, would be hard to say for sure, but I would guess an altitude of several thousand feet and a distance of five miles. These two dots were moving in a south westerly direction in a straight line at about the same speed as a commercial airliner. The two dots then became one dot (as if one moved in front of the other) and then in the distance, as they "banked" round, I could see two dots again. I thought this was a bit strange. They didn't appear to be commercial or light aircraft (I live under one of the main Heathrow flightpaths and on an approach to Farnborough).

Later, approximately 18:30, when it was dark, I saw two bright, glowing reddish/orange lights, this time a lot closer than before (this time coming in the opposite direction as before (north easterly), at a lower altitude (low single figure thousands of feet) and a lot closer (approx one mile - max). They appeared to be on a predetermined flight path and were following each other, at not a particualy great speed (normal aircraft speed). I could not make out any wings and they didn't appear to be aircraft. At first I thought they were satellites, but were far too low. However, they had what I would describe as a "dustbin" shape and there wasn't any audible noise.

I would describe these as "Unidentified Flying Objects", because I could not ascertain what they were.

Are the observations linked?

I have never witnesses anything like this before.

Has anyone else recently seen/reported anything similar for this area?
